Banking Online and Identity Theft
By Online Security Authority on Apr 5, 2009 in Banking Security
Banking online is a relatively safe way to manage your accounts if you are careful and if you have ID theft protection along with PC protection.
What is ID theft? Identity theft is when your personal information is stolen and used illegally, to open accounts in your name. According to the Federal Trade Commission, identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in America.
Techniques that are used to steal information: Phishing and spoof; Impersonating a well-known organization through fraudulent (phishing) emails and spoof websites, examining garbage, scavenging through trash bins to find old bank statements or other documents with personal information, eavesdropping or spying on people during financial transactions, hacking, and breaking into computer databases and retrieving information. If you do not have a service that works 24/7 to help safeguard your privacy and protect your identity by using advanced technology and vigilant monitoring, you should find a good service.
There are ways to protect yourself online and offline. Some services allow you to pay for products or services using a temporary credit card. Online banking allows you to manage your money more easily. Online banking makes it possible for you to bank from anywhere, any time. Online banking (or Internet banking) is a term used for performing transactions, payments etc. Online banking becomes less secure if users are careless, gullible or computer illiterate.
