Stop Error 0xc000021A and Recovery

Windows XP and Server 2003 are Windows NT based operating systems. But sometimes, they can cause serious error messages if Windows NT kernel discovers some issues with its integral processes. In critical situations, you may need to take complete backup of data and reformat the hard disk. “STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000034 (0×00000000 0×0000000)
The system has been shutdown.”
This error message is specific to Windows XP (Professional, Media Center and Table PC Edition) and Server 2003 (Standard, Datacenter, Enterprise and Web Edition).
Cause
Windows displays this error message when either winlogon.exe or csrss.exe process fails.
Winlogon.exe is he process related to Windows Login Manager and is responsible for handling tasks like applying secure attention sequence, locking the computer system etc.
CSRSS stands for Client/Server Runtime Subsystem. Csrss.exe is the process responsible for creating and deleting threads and performing console Windows tasks.
It may occur due to the following reasons:
Failed Service Pack installation
Incompatible device driver or system service
Incompatible third-party application
Mismatched system files
Hard disk backup program has not correctly restored some of the files
Solution
You can follow these steps to resolve the issue:
If you have recently installed any service pack, device driver or third party application, try uninstalling or disabling it.
If the problem persists, start the system using Last Known Good Configuration (Windows Advanced Option).
You can perform in-place upgrade of Windows
You can also use Recovery Consoe to remove incompatible software
Reformat the hard disk and restore data using recent data backup. In case of missing or invalid data backup, you can use hard drive recovery software applications.
