It’s unbelievable. So many health conscious people, who pay attention to the food they eat, exercise regularly and do everything in their power to keep healthy, do not think about the water they drink at all. If you too are used to drinking unfiltered water, you have got to ask the question – Is tap water good for you?
Fact is – the water that we get in our homes is loaded with all kinds of contaminants. Drinking it as it is, is a sure way to get life threatening diseases. And no, even the bottled water you buy from the market is not any better. It’s the same old tap water being sold to you in a nice packaging.
So, is tap water good for you? The short answer is – No. Let’s find out exactly why it is so.
Did you know the water companies add the chemicals Chlorine and Chloramine in our water deliberately? This is actually a very common practice and a source of contamination too!
Chlorine is added in the reservoirs to keep the stored water free from bacteria. It is pretty effective too in getting rid of the microbes while the water is stored there in the containers. However, when this water makes it way to your homes, chances are high that it will pick up new bacteria from the pipes of the distribution network.
Another point to be considered is – since chlorine is toxin and very effective at killing living organisms, how safe can it be for your body? In fact, many studies have linked high chlorine intake to rectal and bladder cancer.
This chemical is just the tip of the iceberg. Our tap water also contains a ton of other contaminants, including heavy metals like asbestos and lead. Again, their presence can be traced back to the lead pipes which are lined with asbestos, being used in our water distribution network.
The metals are especially dangerous for children and can harm the proper development of their brain. Children exposed to these metals tend to have low IQs, behavioral problems, and learning disabilities later in life.
Add to this mix we know as tap water, prescription drugs and pesticides, and you get a lethal mix of chemicals. Now that you know all this, the answer to the question is tap water good for you, would have become clear.
The Solution
All is not lost though. If you use a proper water filter, all these impurities can be taken care of. Just take care to avoid the ineffective tap water purifiers using distillation or reverse osmosis. They have very limited capabilities to purify the water and do not provide you with complete protection.
Instead, look for a system that employs a combination of carbon filtration, sub micron filtration and ion exchange techniques to give you really pure water.
Is tap water good for you? No, but you can change all that and protect yourself and your family from its dangers.
