With our radio show this week we had a fantastic guest and his name was: Drew Read and works with The Paul Anderson Ministries and he stopped by ‘The Hood’ and you can listen to the interview here:
and it got me thinking about the simple process of listening and communicating with our children and of the easiest way of starting with internet safety is begin with our Online-Security-Agreement.pdf and teach it, learn it, and share it…
Online Security Agreement – Between Children and Parents
I don’t want to hide things from my parents because if I have to hide something then it’s wrong. I don’t want to hide anything from my parents because hiding is the same as lying.
1. I agree to not give out personal information such as: my address, telephone number, parents’ work address/telephone number, or the name and location of my school without my parent’s permission.
2. If I am confronted with any information that I feel uncomfortable with I will tell my parents right away.
3. I will never agree to get together with someone I “meet” online without first checking with my parents.
4. I will never post or send a person my picture or anything else without first checking with my parents.
5. I will not respond to any messages that are mean or in any way make me feel uncomfortable. It is not my fault if I get a message like that. If I do I will tell my parents right away so that they can contact the service provider (ISP).
6. I will talk with my parents and set up rules for going online. We will decide when and what time of day that I can be online, the length of time I can be online and safe places for me to visit. I will not access other areas or break these rules. I will ask permission before accessing other websites without my parent’s permission.
7. I will not give out my Internet passwords to anyone (even my best friends) other than my parents.
8. I will check with my parents before downloading or installing software or doing anything that could possibly hurt our computer or jeopardize my family’s privacy.
9. I will be a good Internet citizen. I will not do anything that hurts other people or do anything that is against the law.
10. I will help my parents to have fun and learn things online, and teach them things about the Internet, computers and other technology.
In signing this Online Security Agreement, I know that my parents have my best interests at heart and they love me and I love them. I don’t want to do anything that would cause grief, sorrow, or pain to others, especially my parents.
