COLUMBUS, Ohio — A whole new type of Scrooge is springing up this holiday season. It’s a group of bad guys who are running a gift card scam.Seems they take the cards off the racks in stores and copy down the serial numbers. Later on, they check to see if the card is activated, and if the answer is yes, they go on a shopping spree from the store’s website.
You may want to purchase your card from a customer service person in stores that keep their gift cards behind the counter, away from tampering.
The Better Business Bureau of Central Ohio says when you buy a gift card, hold on to the receipt, so it can be returned if there’s a problem. They also suggest checking for signs of tampering.
OSA Editorial Comments:
What better gift could you give yourself this year, than a very easy way to protect you from ID theft.
