Quick Money Making Scams To Watch Out For
By OSAblogger on Jul 27, 2009 in Thoughts on Security
Work-at-home options hold particular attraction for people who are not able to land a conventional, well-paying job, or are in a circumstance where they cannot venture out of their homes to look for one. For instance, the elderly or the disabled people who are at the end of their careers or who cannot make it through to a conventional job may be tempted by these quick money making home based businesses. If you are a mother who’s staying at home, you may veer towards these schemes to supplement the income of the household.
However, that quick money making scheme you plan to invest in may very well be a dubious proposition. Not to say that all ventures you come across online are scams. There are plenty of legitimate options out there. You’ll just need to exercise caution when you come across one of them, and not walk into them on blind faith.
What are some of these quick money making scams. Let’s find out.
Stuffing Envelopes
For those who are not familiar with this job, here’s the gist. You read about this scheme and it says that you have to send in money and a self addressed envelope with the postage affixed. When the money is sent, what you receive is a flyer template that you need to put up in different places around town with your name and contact details on it. Those flyers instruct people to send you some money in envelopes that are self addressed and pre-paid, which you stuff with another flyer and send it back to them. Sounds like a dog chasing its own tail and making money in the process.
Multi-Level Marketing (MLM)
While there are several multi level marketing schemes that are legitimate, you need to beware of MLM opportunities that focus more on building-the-pyramid and climbing-the-ladder than actually selling the product. The Federal Trade Commission looks askance at all these hair brained, quick money making pyramid schemes and can even pull you up for fraud.
Medical Billing
Medical Billing is not to be confused with medical transcription, which is a legitimate home based job. In this scheme you are asked to cough up anything from $250 to $1000 in return for advanced software that will assist you in medical billing. That along with a list of prospective clients to start up your quick money making business. However, what they conveniently forget to tell you is that most of the clinics either outsource the billing to verified firms or do the processing themselves. Where does that leave you? Holding the shorter end of the stick, that’s where!
