ABAP Programming And SAP Application

When I first learned programming back in the early 2000, I was fortunated to learn many different kinds of programming languages, such as Visual basic 6, Visual basic .net, C# ASP .NET well mostly in the .net platform, and learning about encapsulation, instantiating object was a lot of fun.
But today about a year ago when my company start implementing SAP, I got assigned to be an ABAPER which means I will be doing programming in SAP using ABAP (Advanced business application programming), first I thought this will be difficult but when the consultants trained me, I thought to myself that ABAP programming is really FUN and compare it with my previous programming languages, I come to a conclusion that ABAP is easier and better.
While the whole SAP application it self is a very integrated and robust application, the time spend to do all the accounting processes are cut down to almost 60%, and that’s a very good news to the management.
The SAP application is a 3 tier application that separates between the database, business logic and the user application layer which makes it easier to maintain the application.
The good thing about SAP is that you can actually look into all the source codes for almost all the objects such as report programs, pool programs (screen) and other function modules, you even can modify certain standard SAP programs using USER EXITS to make it do more additional function for the user.
All in all I think that it’s a good thing to have SAP installed in your own company, don’t be afraid of the changes, be one with the flow and you will be all right.
